My counselling approach

Ki Addis, a counsellor and hypnotherapist in West Bridgford, Nottingham

I use an integrative style of counselling, which means that I blend different therapeutic approaches to tailor my support to your unique needs and situation. I find that this flexible approach ensures that you receive the most effective therapy, incorporating techniques from various schools of thought, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), solution focused, psychodynamic, person-centred and hypnotherapy.

Essentially, I provide you with a safe, confidential and supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We work together to build a strong therapeutic relationship of trust and respect, ensuring that you feel heard and valued.

Choosing to seek therapy can be daunting but it is a courageous and empowering decision and I am here to help. Contact me to schedule an initial consultation and we can talk more about what you are hoping to achieve.

let's chat - free and no obligation

I qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist back in 2011 and I am an Accredited Member of The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society. I am fully insured and hold enhanced DBS clearance, as well as having extensive experience of working with children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact me at ki@awakentherapy.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

This is always a difficult questions to answer and the truth is, there is no answer. Everyone is different and it all depends on what you are hoping to achieve. We will review progress regularly and I will adapt my approach to you and your needs. I offer both short and long term counselling and will continue working with you for as long as is beneficial to you.

Great question! There are so many different forms of therapy and so many therapists that are suitably qualified, accredited and experienced enough to help. Rapport and feeling comfortable with your therapist is incredibly important and without those things, it is difficult to make progress. I offer a free, no obligation initial consultation so that you have the opportunity to have a chat with me over the phone or online and get a bit of a feel for me before booking sessions. A lot of therapists offer this and it is a good opportunity for you to "shop around". Please connect with me on social media, which will also give you a bit of a sense of who I am as a person and whether we might be the right fit. Go with your gut!

  • CBT: Providing coping strategies and helping you manage issues by adapting your thinking. This in turn influences your feelings and behaviours.
  • Solution focused: A short term approach that is focused on goals and finding specific ways to achieve them.
  • Psychodynamic: Supporting you to achieve greater self-awareness through understanding the unconscious influence of your past experiences on your present.
  • Person-centred: Providing the right conditions for you to realise your full potential. It is client led and you are supported to find your own solutions and ways to move forward.

Of course - that's one of the things about counselling that is so appealing - the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings safely and securely. Everything you say during our sessions is kept confidential in line with the code of ethics of The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society. There are certain situations where I may be required to break confidentiality, for example, if there was a concern that you were going to harm yourself or another person or if instructed by a Court of Law. More details can be found in my Privacy Policy.

Therapy is a gift. It is a chance to finally be heard, understood, and supported.
