People are often skeptical of hypnotherapy and it's not surprising when you think about some of the stage hypnosis and portrayal in TV and film you may have seen.
We actually go into a state similar to hypnosis several times a day. Have you ever been driving and realised that your mind has wandered and you've not been paying any attention to the road? Well that's the state - a drifty, day-dreamy state of mind where the conscious mind goes elsewhere and the subconscious takes over.
And during a hypnotherapy session, you are still awake (although it may feel like sleep) and you will feel deeply relaxed, opening your eyes feeling calm, refreshed and recharged. It's really nice!
No swinging watches, no "look into my eyes" and definitely no mind control!
Hypnotherapy involves deep relaxation and achieving a trance-like state in order to access your subconscious mind. The subconscious is powerful and limitless but not under our conscious control but through hypnosis, it is possible to change unwanted feelings and behaviour and replace them with more positive beliefs and responses.
You are fully in control throughout hypnosis and cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do. Whilst we may think that we find moments of relaxation in our busy lives, this is often not the case and our brains usually remain highly alert and active. Hypnosis achieves a true state of deep relaxation and inner calm and most people feel refreshed and relaxed after their session. Add to this the fact that it can also help you to achieve your goals and it makes for a fantastic form of therapy. You are literally making positive changes with your eyes closed!
Each session will be specifically tailored to you personally in order to ensure the greatest possible chance of success. If you are ready, willing and able to make positive change then hypnotherapy could very well be the answer. It is important to keep in mind that hypnotherapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix and as such, a "cure" can never be guaranteed. However, where a client is committed to change and wants things to improve then there is more chance of you achieving your desired results.
I qualified as a hypnotherapist back in 2009 and I am a Registrant Member of The National Hypnotherapy Society. I am fully insured and hold enhanced DBS clearance, as well as having extensive experience of supporting children, particularly working with exam stress, anxiety and sleep difficulties. I have also written articles for the Hypnotherapy Directory, which you can find on my profile page.

Hypnosis is a state of relaxation and concentration that allows the mind to become more open to suggestion and change. It feels a bit like having a refreshing nap but you are still technically awake and in full control. You CANNOT be made to do anything you don't want to do under hypnosis. The body relaxes, the brain waves slow down and it all feels really nice and soothing. I offer monthly group relaxation sessions, which are a great way to experience hypnosis and see for yourself.
Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, weight loss, and more. You can find more information here and feel free to contact me to discuss your specific needs.
Some issues and the techniques used tend to have a set number of sessions. For example, smoking is usually done in 1, simple phobias in 3 and weight loss 4-6. Issues such as stress, anxiety and depression can vary and it depends how far down the today to recovery you want to get. Some clients are happy to finish after 3 sessions when they notice some changes in their patterns of behaviour, others go into the teens, preferring to continue until the positive changes are more established. Everyone is different and the approach will always be personalised to you.
It is all down to the individual and what feels more comfortable for you. For some, leaving the house and attending sessions in a separate space, where they won't be disturbed is preferable. For others, having sessions in the comfort of their own home and being able to get relaxed and cosy in their own surroundings allows them to enjoy the experience more. Online sessions also mean that distance is not an issue. Hypnotherapy is just as effective online so the choice is yours!
ABSOLUTELY! Children tend to respond really well to hypnotherapy because they have a natural ability to engage in imaginative and creative experiences. Their minds are more open, they can be more suggestible than adults and can find it easier to enter a relaxed state. I've helped children with anxiety, sleep difficulties, exam stress, eating difficulties and confidence. Aged 7 is the youngest I've worked with but hypnotherapy can be effective for children as young as 5.
